Lest we Forget

Haven't seen my latest post? Click here now!

Today is Remembrance Day (US Veterans Day), and the school gym was packed with people. On November 11, 1918, on the 11th hour, World War 1 ended. Sadly, hundreds of soldiers were already dead. Many of them were Canadian. Tons of soldiers were buried in Flanders Field. Does that ring a bell? Maybe the poem by John McCrae (Yes, a Canadian!)

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yep, and that's why we wear a poppy, to remember the soldiers who died to allow Canada to become a free country (Same with the US).

Well, have a good day!
