Winter is coming, and snow is falling...

Posted by k6ka Dec. 9, 2009 @ 12:36 PM EST

Sorry for not posting for a long time; I had a quiet life between my previous post and this post.

I know, Canada has cold winters, and I hate winter. I absolutely HATE winter.

But there is something I enjoy in winter. No, it's not building a snowfort. No, it's not making a snowman. It is (drumroll please):

SHOVELING SNOW!!!!!

Some of you would consider that work, but that activity really gets me some exercise, since you can't run well in the winter; the snow will bog you down.

I had quite an adventure this morning too! I made a blog post here...

And now, it's raining, making driving conditions so horrible. It is also very cold.

Oh, and I was dumb enough to go straight back to Titanic and find videos about it.

.

Have a nice winter (Man, it's cold!)!

Lest we Forget

Posted by k6ka Nov. 11, 2009 @ 4:30 PM EST

Haven't seen my latest post? Click here now!

Today is Remembrance Day (US Veterans Day), and the school gym was packed with people. On November 11, 1918, on the 11th hour, World War 1 ended. Sadly, hundreds of soldiers were already dead. Many of them were Canadian. Tons of soldiers were buried in Flanders Field. Does that ring a bell? Maybe the poem by John McCrae (Yes, a Canadian!)

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yep, and that's why we wear a poppy, to remember the soldiers who died to allow Canada to become a free country (Same with the US).

Well, have a good day!

NOTE: I have approved comments on, since this is serious. Think before you comment!

Toronto Zoo

Posted by k6ka Oct. 5, 2009 @ 4:42 PM EDT

Please read this news post.

I haven't posted anything for a month now, and it wasn't a big event to return to school. Today (October 5, 2009), we went to the Toronto Zoo. When I was young, and even now, I love to look at maps; especially road maps. Especially maps of Toronto. Especially MapArt's maps of Toronto. At the thought of a major and important city for North America, you'd think the entire place was endless buildings. And building. And parks. And roads. And highways. But on the east end of Toronto, the place turns into a conservation land. Rouge Park sits there, and that's the name of the conservation land. In it near the west end of Rouge Park, is the Toronto Zoo, sitting near some small industries, homes, and shops. Today, we went to this zoo. What other zoo is close enough to go to; and large enough?

Since this is a class trip, we went to a small little portable, or so I think. (Inside, it is hot and stuffy, because there were animals (A turtle swimming in an aquarium at least!) living inside the portable. We talked about animals, reviewed food chains, and what troublemakers we are. Huh? Yes, we are responsible for what we have an acronym: H.I.P.P.O.

Habitat destruction
Invasive species
Population
Pollution
Overcollection

Self explanatory, right?

We got to see a tiger, an orangutan, a sea horse (They're really small even for adult sea horses), real coral, and I'm getting a headache by the thought of it.

Want to go to the Toronto Zoo? Easy. Drive or fly to Toronto. Best to take a bus. If you don't know the route, the time, and what bus to take, hail a taxi. Any cab will do.

EDIT: I created another account. View this news post to see it!

First time to the United States!!

Posted by k6ka Aug. 31, 2009 @ 2:05 PM EDT

Before August 31, 2009, I never went anywhere outside my country Canada. Today, I finally got a big event: My first time to the US! We only went to Buffalo, though. Not very boring, however.

We drove from our home in Markham to our directly southern neighbor, Toronto, and then drove west on the 401, then to the 403 in Mississauga, and then south to the peculiar place where two highways, the 403 and QEW, combine together to form the QEW/403 through Oakville and Burlington only. Soon, the QEW left the 403 and headed south through Hamilton, and then east to St. Catharines and Niagara Falls, and then headed south again to Fort Erie and Buffalo. It was my first time to ever cross a country border. We crossed the Peace Bridge and got onto the Interstate 190 New York State Thruway and got a little mixed up. It was everyone's second time here except me, as this was my first time. We had a pretty fussy map because roads were shown as lines. If you didn't know, those maps are harder to understand. And we didn't buy MapArt's Buffalo (In case you didn't know, MapArt is a company that is clearer than most fussy maps with roads that are shown wider and less likely to mix up. You can tell which is a local road, whats an arterial road, what's a highway, what's an expressway, and what uses tolls).

We hunted around the city for a McDonald's for a long time (My brother wanted to try "American McDonald's", not McDonald Canada!), but looks like everything was closed and there were no McDonald restaurants in sight. We just found rows and rows of run-down buildings, and many churches. A lot more than Toronto. Still no McDonald's. We managed to find a Wendy's, though. BOO MCDONALD'S, YAY WENDY'S.

So we went around looking for some very interesting and historical stuff, and then a washroom. Since this place lacked shopping malls and restaurants with no "Washroom's are for customer's only" signs, we bought some Coke and a caffeine free Sprite at a Subway's just to urinate. I guess Toronto wins.

We got to see Lafayette Square, City Hall (It was boarded up for renovations), and a time capsule. There, we hunted for another washroom. When we arrived at a Tim Horton's restaurant, we got a horrible shock: It was closed. Closed. Shut tight. Locked. No longer open. All the shops around the area were closed.

We left to try and see Niagara Falls on the American side (I only saw the falls on the Canadian side). On the way there on Interstate 190, we found a McDonald's. Too late! WE ALREADY ATE LUNCH (The hamburger from Wendy's was still in my stomach)!

We didn't really find a place to see the falls, and we made a wrong turn. We turned into the Rainbow Bridge for crossing the border back to Canada. BOO! Fortunately, we didn't really know that the falls were only visible on the Canadian side, which is why so many Americans flock over to Canada to view the falls.

We arrived back in Toronto at about 9:10 at night without dinner in our stomachs (the burger was still in my stomach! That's sure long-lasting. Also because we ate lunch at 3:20 pm). We stopped at a small Chinese restaurant for a quick dinner, then went home so tired we could sleep standing up. No really.

Sorry for the really long news post and the fact it'll be a bit longer, but please read this news post if you haven't.

Here are two videos of pictures of Buffalo's history.

Here's the second one.

2 things (Formerly "I got glasses")

Posted by k6ka Aug. 14, 2009 @ 12:10 PM EDT

GLASSES
August 14, 2009

First of all, see my news post about seeing the Dead Sea scrolls.

Okay, you may think I don't wear glasses, but we discovered that my dominant eye (My right eye) has "Long-sight" and the other "Short-sight". Teachers complain that i can't see the chalkboard. So we went to the eye doctor and did some really not cool stuff. They used different lenses and tested my eyes, seeing which is clearer. The week after, we went to a well-known optometrist (A cousin's dad, really) and went to find glasses my size, shape, and what I'm comfortable with. It was sure fast manufacturing the real glasses because they were ready the next day, but we got it the day after because we were a little... too tired to do it. So I got the glasses yesterday (April 13, 2009).

And this was the result. A nice pair of glasses that opened a window in my sight. It was quite uncomfortable in them at first. There was a little dizzy feeling as I walked. On the first day I had a smaller appetite. And today... I gotten used to them a little.

Please comment and PM me or email me (Just don't send tons of crappy PMs and emails. I'm bound to delete them).

Here's a nice picture of my glasses (located at the end of the post).

EDIT: A video I found on YouTube...

Oh, and here's another...

IMPORTANT EDIT

WHITE ROCK OSTRICH FARM
August 22, 2009

Did you know that ostrich is in high demand? More than 100 restaurants and companies await more ostrich meat?

Ostrich is popular because it is said to be healthy. The proof? Only 2g (0.0704 ounces) of fat, about 122 calories, and about 26g (0.9152 ounces) of protein.

So today, we headed south from Markham into our direct southerly neighbor, Toronto, to the MacDonald - Cartier Freeway (More commonly known as "Highway 401"). Then we headed way west to the White Rock Ostrich Farm. First, we got onto a trailer dragged by a tractor with hay bundled up and served as... rather itching seats. The driver was probably younger than you, unless you are under 14. He seemed pretty hard-working. He drove us around and explained some stuff about ostriches and then he took us to the teenagers. We even got to feed them some dried kernels of corn. Then it began to rain. Rain. Rain rain rain. He drove us back to the building for lunch. We got to try some ostrich meat burgers. They were more than delicious. The garnish wasn't bad too, but the meat itself was awesome. Unlike beef, ostrich meat takes only 12 minutes to grill and is healthy and filling. The inside still has a little pink inside, but it is still considered "fully cooked".

So, I had a great time there. Here's their website, and you can email me about my little experience on an ostrich farm.

A small edit: Here's an article on Wikipedia...

EDIT: Sorry about the "Really annoying fucking edits", but I just found a video on YouTube. NOTE: The ostrich farm they are in is NOT White Rock Ostrich Farm.

.

EDIT: I'm really sorry for editing this so much, but I have a YoMe on Miniclip. View this news post!

So, who wants an ostrich burger?

To the ROM!

Posted by k6ka Aug. 3, 2009 @ 8:47 PM EDT

Today (August 3, 2009), we went to the ROM, or Royal Ontario Museum. We took the subway downtown in Toronto and went in. If you've heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls, you will know what am I talking about.

The place they were put in on display was freezing cold. So cold that I jumped up and down to keep warm, but I guess they put their air-conditioner on full blast. Good for storing ice cream (I never ate any ice cream that day, however).

The scrolls were located in caves. They were about 900 scrolls written and placed in caves to protect them.

The scrolls that brought the world's attention was discovered by accident in about 1946 or 1947. Someone threw a rock into a cave and heard a strange noise. He found jars with some scrolls in it. That cave is known as Cave 1. The scrolls that took a long time to solve were the ones in Cave 4. There were no jars to protect the scrolls and they were scattered all over the ground, and they were decomposing. People spent almost a decade trying to piece the scrolls together. It's not as easy as one of our puzzles, which are really easy. LOL!

The scrolls are now on display at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, at the intersection of Queen's Park and Bloor Street. You could just take the subway there. There are translations of the scrolls above the pieces of the scrolls.

Want to learn more? Check out their website, or email me (I can't answer all your questions) if you want to learn more.

I also found and article on Wikipedia. Check it out!

New Accounts (Updated whenever a new account is made).

Posted by k6ka Jul. 5, 2009 @ 6:19 PM EDT

You can see that my most favorite game is Territory WAR Online. I created an account on that a XGen about three weeks ago. After that, I started winning and losing. You can see my current stats here...

I also created a TWBoards account on July 5th, 2009. On the website section, I put in 'k6ka.newgrounds.com'. But I won't put my TWBoards profile page as my website (Because that's stupid). You can check out my profile page...

Oh wait; I think I'd better stop creating so many accounts.

EDIT: I made an account on ArcadePreHacks. Here is my profile page!
EDIT: You must sign in or register before you can view my profile.
Another edit: I created an account at Arcade Trainer Forum. Here's my profile page! You might need to login but i never bothered to check.
ANOTHER STUPID FUCKING EDIT: I AM A PLAYER IN MINICLIP! I JUST BEAT CAB DRIVER!! Here's my player page!
Stupid but important edit: Afro-Ninja account. Profile here...

O Canada!

Posted by k6ka Jul. 1, 2009 @ 9:06 PM EDT

Hey Newgrounders (and guests)

If you live in Canada, you know what I'm talking about. Today is Canada's 142nd birthday, 142 years after Canada was born. I doubt the fireworks would go off tonight, because it's raining. Sucks. I'll edit this if we go or not. Read more of Canada at Wikipedia...

Here's a picture of our flag. Happy Canada Day!

EDIT: The fireworks were finished before it rained. What luck!!

Yay! Summer is here, and that means school is out. Finally...

If you didn't know, I'm planning to use this summer to get to Town Watch rank.

Another classmate in my class created a Newgrounds account. He called it: Icecoldhuman58.

And he showed me this video: The Ultimate Showdown. You better keep your eyes glued to the video.

.

So have a terrific summer!

EDIT: I'm working on a PowerPoint presentation for my mom.

EDIT: Notice the new picture I posted.

Can you smell the chocolate?

Posted by k6ka Jun. 10, 2009 @ 5:05 PM EDT

I'm not a fan of chocolate, but I enjoy it once in a while.

Well, we went to the Gladstone Cadbury chocolate factory in Toronto, at 277 Gladstone Avenue. Yes, we could smell chocolate in every single room, and we learned about the history of this factory (THIS FACTORY ONLY). Then we talked about the history of chocolate, but I know a lot about that already. We saw a cacao (Pronounced ka-KOW) pod, and inside the pod was cocoa beans. The pods grew on the trunk of cacao trees. They need the shade of larger trees like banana trees to protect them. Gnats pollinate blossoms that grow on the trunk and soon, cacao pods start to grow. The cocoa bean is then made into chocolate.
I don't want to talk too much today, but products by Cadbury are popular, but the bestsellers are Mr. Big, Dairy Milk, and stuffs like that. I think I found the website right here, and if you are Canadian, click here.
And I have two songs that I thought of: This and this
If you got any more questions, click here to email me.
